Richard BLOOM Obituary

RICHARD JAMES BLOOM

1936 - 2018

Richard “Dick” Bloom found eternal peaceon November 13, 2018 at age 82.

He was born August 22, 1936 to Arthur and Leda Bloom at their farm in Genesee Village and remained a lifelong resident of the Town of Genesee.

Dick attended Waukesha High School and Carroll College. He loved sports and participated in many local baseball, softball, basketball, dartball, bowling and golf leagues through the years but his first love was always baseball.   He rode his bicycle to baseball youth programs until he was of age to join the Genesee Land O’Lakes Team.  He remained a LOL player for 23 years until his retirement in 1976 due to health issues.  He was on numerous All-Star teams and played in tournaments for his team as well as others and was especially thrilled to have played in County Stadium in one state tournament.  Many of his fellow team members and opponents remained life-long and treasured friends.  Most summer weekends were family outings to baseball games or softball tournaments with children and picnic basket in tow.  He was a devoted fan of the Wisconsin Badgers – any sport - through great and not so great years.  One of his special moments was a trip to watch them win the Rose Bowl in 1994.  He was also a fervent Packer fan.

He managed Genesee youth and adult baseball teams for many years. He was a member of the Land O’ Lakes Hall of Fame and an officer and director of the LOL Old Timers Association.  Dick loved his winter vacations to escape the cold and enjoy warmer weather and was an enthusiastic card player, always ready for a euchre, cribbage or sheepshead game.  He retired from the Amron Corporation in Waukesha in 1997 and enjoyed his family, his home and his many friends in retirement.  His sense of humor endeared him to many.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart, best friend and devoted wife of 62 years, Marleene (nee Brimmer), and his children, Patricia Hellman (Jeff) and Douglas Bloom.  He is also survived by four grandchildren: Vince Hellman (Stephanie), Dave Hellman Paige), Kathleen Bloom (special friend Christian) and Michael Bloom.   Many nephews, nieces and wonderful life-long friends will also miss him.   Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings - brothers Lyman and Arthur and sisters Dorothy Kluessendorf, Lois Yatzeck and Catherine Ingle.

Visitation with family will be at the Thelen Funeral Services W309 S4840 Commercial Drive in Genesee Village (by Hwy’s 59 & 83) between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2018.   Private services will be held at a later date.

Special thanks go out to the workers of Pro Health Home & Hospice Care for the care given him during his last days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated for the First Congregational Church of Genesee or to the family for distribution per his wishes.
