Harvey Rheinhart Ganske of Dousman, WI passed away on Saturday July 8, 2023 at AngelsGrace Hospice after surgery complications.
Harvey was born in Madison, WI to Rheinhart and Verna (Mraz) Ganske on July 13, 1942. His parents named him after his maternal Uncle Harvey who served and was wounded during active duty in World War II. He graduated from Deerfield High School. He then attended UW- Madison for a year and a half majoring in electrical engineering. He found that this was not where his talents lie, and transferred to Madison Business College earning a degree in Accounting. After moving to Milwaukee, he held accounting positions at Manpower and Johnson Control before starting his 30 year career as a Revenue Agent at the Internal Revenue Service. Harvey also served in the Army National Guard of Wisconsin for 6 years. He served at a time of unrest and was involved with restoring order during the 1967 Milwaukee riots.
Harvey enjoyed playing golf, bowling and in his younger years, softball. He was a fan of the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and the PGA tour. It was always an experience watching a Packer game with him as he really was animated when they were playing. He attended several PGA tournaments through the years especially the Greater Milwaukee Open. One of his favorite getaways was Door County. For many years he owned a cabin where many good times were spent enjoying the beauty of this area.
Harvey always had a big heart for those not as blessed as he. He volunteered as a Meals on Wheels driver, and as a Saturday coordinator for the Gathering (a meal program in Milwaukee). He gave generously to various charitable organizations that supported those needing medical or counseling assistance, especially St. Jude’s and Rawhide Boys Ranch.
Harvey was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Cheryl for 38 years. Dad to daughters Laura Ganske, and Michelle (Scott) Asher. Furdad to his Scottie McDuffy. Papa to his grandchildren Griffin, Killian, and Emerson Asher. Brother-in-law to Debra (Richard) Taylor. Uncle to Tammy Babler, John (Cheryl) Mankowski, Melissa (Nick) Hammell, Justin (Carly) Taylor and Amanda Taylor. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents Rheinhart and Verna, his sister Diana, his brother Steven, and his mother-in-law Jean.
