Ione THELEN Obituary

A private graveside service will be held for Ione Thelen who, in the early morning hours of April 8th, was led into the promised land.  After holding hands with her children and saying the Lord’s Prayer, He opened his arms and welcomed her home.  Such a peaceful, quiet, and gentle way to leave this land and meet our Lord.....Face to face.

Ione (Meyer) Thelen was born in the family home on November 17, 1932.  She was the fourth of ten children born to Alfred and Gertrude (Grunloh) Meyer.  Her family and faith were always important to her.

After graduating from St. Boniface High School she worked for Bell Telephone Company in the Twin Cities.

Ione married Ronald Thelen on July 11, 1953, in St. Boniface Catholic Church.  Ione was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband as Co-owners, of Thelen’s Bar in Pearl Lake.  She and Ron also had a lawn mowing business and sold pull tabs.

Ione really enjoyed people.  Growing up with nine siblings, she learned the importance of hard work and never backed down from it.  In raising their children, she nurtured their individual motivations as best she could through life.

Over the years she volunteered in many different capacities.  For the last 20 years, you may have seen her in the hallways of the Assumption Campus.  If you were lucky, you would be greeted with a big smile and a piece of candy.  Ione enjoyed playing cards, bingo, doing puzzles, and watching her MN sports teams.

She was a member of St. Boniface Parish all her life, and was a former officer of the Christian Mothers.

Visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a joy in her world.  All of you have held a very special place in her heart.

Ione is survived by: James Thelen, his children: Mason (Danielle) with their children Maisie and Wil-Bernard;  Terese; step-children Derek Hemingson with his children, Matthew and Marshal, Kayla (Barry) Schindle, John (Meagan) Hemingson with their children, Theoden, Audrey, Timothy, and Amelia; Patrick Hemingson; JoAnn Thelen; Robert (Dr. Annie)Thelen, their children: Kathleen (Dr. Jami) Rassmusen with their children, Oscar, Rhys, and Colin; Elizabeth (Jonathan) Goerges with their children, Penelope and Julianna; Janet (Todd) Aaseth, their children: Chad and Sarah; and Timothy (Kris) Thelen with their children:  Brandt (Jacqulyn) Felber, Alina Felber, Patrick, Karsen and Micki Thelen.  Siblings, Ed (Mary Lou) Meyer, Carol Ley, Donald Meyer, Susie (Gene) Kramer, and Lou (Paula) Meyer; In-laws, Earl Danzeisen, Rosie Meyer, Birdie Meyer, Judy Thelen, Tom Bell, Joan (Dave) Bell, Ed Thelen, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ron (4-6-2006); her parents, Al (10-11-1989), Gertrude (4-8-1998); daughter-in-law, Joy; grandchild; siblings, Betty Danzeisen, Norm, Jerry (Dizzy), and Richard; in-laws, Dick Ley, Ken Thelen, Lois Bell, and Bill Spaeth.
