Leemeter HURT Obituary

 

 

Leemeter Joy Hurt was born November 7th, 1934, in Sardis, Mississippi, to Roosevelt Joy, Sr. and Rosa Lee (Wright) Joy. She died Saturday, January 27th, 2024, at age 89.


She attended Walton Chapel School and graduated from high school also in Sardis, Miss. Leemeter married Lester Hurt on September 13th, 1956, in Sardis. They left Sardis and moved to Memphis, then on to Milwaukee in 1960 after Brenda and Luster (Danny) were born. Henry, Tony, Steven and Lisa were born in Milwaukee. She was widowed May 16th, 1968.

To support her family, she worked for Milwaukee Public Schools as a classroom assistant and then tirelessly for many years as a housekeeper.


On August 14, 1965, Leemeter was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at a convention in Minneapolis, MN, and has been a member of the Downtown Milwaukee and Merrill Park congregations her entire 59 dedicated years. She was a tireless publisher and auxiliary pioneer of The Good News. She preached with integrity and loyal love. May we all look to her fine example of loving Jehovah with all our heart, mind, and soul. (Mark 12:29, 30)  She is now in Jehovah's Book of Life.


Leemeter is preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt and Rosie Lee Joy; her husband, Lester Hurt I; Six brothers: Nathaniel, Roosevelt Jr., James, Monroe, Jessie and Willie T. Joy; and Two sisters: Blanche Jones and Gertrude Davis and a Great-grandson, Raymond Joseph Colon, Jr.


Leemeter leaves to cherish her memory: Her Children: Brenda (Issac) Young-Suggs, Luster (Joyce) Hurt II., Henry (Joan) Hurt, Tony (Lillian) Hurt, Steven (Gigi) Hurt, and Lisa Hurt; her Siblings Gladys Peterson, Gary Indiana; Cornelious Street, Milwaukee, WI; and Wilford Joy, Gary, IN; along with her many grandchildren: Antoinette (Pooh) Hurt-McMillan, Chandra (Dontrae) Henning, Lisa (Raymond Sr) Colon, Sherrion (Resy) (Jeffrey I) Young-Bates, Leo Young Il, L'Erin (Boobie) (Monty) Hurt Watts, Luster (Chewy) Hurt Il, Alex Hurt, Jean Hurt-Taylor, Davia Washington, Tamika D Hurt, Steve (Coobie) (Simone) Hurt Jr, Paris Hurt, Ashlynn Macon, a beloved group of great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson. Also, many other relatives, dear friends and her spiritual family of other Jehovah Witnesses.

 

A funeral service for Leemeter will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 2:00PM, with a time to share memories starting at 1:30PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 6636 West Appleton Avenue, Milwaukee, WI. 53216.
